IN MOMBERCELLI

• Second Sunday of May
  ARTICHOKE DAY
  The Pro Loco organizes, in collaboration with the municipal Administration, an exposition of artichokes produced in the area. In a suggestive market prepared in the Municipal Plaza, it is possible to purchase and taste artichokes and other typical products: wine, grappa (typical liquor), honey, nougat, sweets, marmalades, vegetables and flowers. In the Pro Loco hall it is organized lunch whose main course is obviously artichokes.

  TRUFFLE DAY
  In the morning, in Piazza Alfieri, opens the market of typical products, amongst which the truffle ones stand out, being the truffle brought in there by the “trifolao” of the town and the surrounding area.  At midday time it is possible to taste the traditional dishes prepared for the occasion by the Pro Loco of the towns of the “Unione Collinare Valtiglione e dintorni”, under the tent prepared in Piazza Unione Europea. In the Via Bogliolo hall, the Pro Loco of Mombercelli proposes the “Colazione del trifolao” (truffle breakfast), with rich truffle menu. In the afternoon there is a little market where live music is played.
  

IN VINCHIO

• First week-end of May
  The celebration of the historic victory of Aleramo over the saracenic (in medieval costumes).
  On the Saturday night the town is brought back in time, everything modern is hidden, the illumination is made via torches, and all around there are people in medieval dresses and tourists can be involved in disputes and be pilloried (obviosly it is all part of the fiction). Along the streets it is possible to taste the local products. On the Sunday after there is the “Sagra dell’Asparago del Saraceno” (festival of the saracenic asparagus).

IN THE ASTI PROVINCE

The Palio di Asti is one of the most important events of Piedmont and the second most important of its kind in Italy. It takes place the second Sunday of September in the central plaza of Asti since the XII century and there participate 21 horses ridden by 21 jockeys that represent the 14 villages and the 7 municipalities of the province. During the farmers’ festivals, around 40 pro loco of the Asti province propose their gastronomic specialties, accompanied by DOC Asti wines. All of this after the wonderful parade through the streets of the town, animated by more than 3000 walk-ons in real old costumes, tractors, instruments, that represent the values and traditions of this wonderful land.

During the Sagre Contadine (Country Fair), which takes place in Piazza del Palio (Palio square), about 40 villages offer you their food specialties together with some of the best Asti wines. Don't miss the colourful procession that winds its way through the city, with more than 3000 characters with authentic period costumes, farm tractors and farming tools, which represent the values and traditions of this beautiful land.

The Siege of Canelli is a festival in which the precise historic representation seems real thanks to the participation of the public, where more than 2000 characters with costumes of the XVII century recreate the two days of the Siege of Canelli of the year 1613.

The “premio Douja d’Or” is the National Enologic Competition for DOC and DOCG wines organized during the month of September By the “Camera di Commercio di Asti”, with the collaboration of the O.N.A.V. (Organizzazione Nazionale Assaggiatori di Vino – National Organization of Wine Tasters).
